Ground-breaking ceremony for Obernberg am Inn ground-mounted photovoltaic plant
Renewable energy with solar power for the region
This afternoon, June 17, 2025, the official go-ahead for the photovoltaic system in Obernberg am Inn was given together with the mayor of the municipality of Obernberg am Inn, the head of office and the planning engineering firm METAPLAN ENERGIETECHNIK GMBH from Leonding.
With this further ground-mounted PV system, we are once again taking a sensible and necessary step towards a sustainable energy supply. By using existing company building land, we have explicitly refrained from building on green spaces and are thus also creating added value in the region by reducing the amount of unused land.
“The plant generates around 6.5 GWh of electricity per year and can therefore supply around 1,800 households with clean, locally generated solar power,” says AEP H2 GmbH CEO Gerald Wirtl. There are numerous other projects of over 30 MW in the pipeline that are to be implemented in the coming months.
Being able to realize a project of this magnitude in Upper Austria fills us with great joy and pride. As a PV planning and installation company based in Linz, it is our declared aim to play an active role in shaping the energy transition – sustainably, regionally and with an eye to the future.
Especially in times of increasing energy demand and necessary climate protection measures, it is particularly important to us to make locally generated solar power available and thus contribute to security of supply and energy independence in the region.
Many thanks to the Metaplan planning office, with whom we were able to implement this project in partnership and with a great deal of commitment. Such collaborations are an important part of the path to a renewable energy future – step by step, project by project.

CEO, AEP H2 GmbH
Gerald Wirtl
We are proud to be implementing a project of this magnitude in our home region. With an annual electricity generation of around 6.5 GWh, we are not only making a decisive contribution to the energy transition, but also supplying around 1,800 households with clean, locally generated solar power. This is a further step towards a more sustainable and independent energy future for Upper Austria.
Further projects are planned throughout Austria
AEP H2 GmbH has been actively expanding its own photovoltaic systems for many years and will continue to invest heavily in the future of renewable energy. Many new projects are already being planned for hybrid power plants with large battery storage systems in order to relieve the burden on the public grids as an owner-managed company.
In addition to building its own plants, AEP H2 GmbH also supports municipalities, local authorities and companies in the implementation of photovoltaic projects – without any capital expenditure for the customer. Thanks to our tried-and-tested contracting model, we take over the planning, financing, construction and operation of the systems. Customers benefit from sustainably generated electricity at predictable conditions, while we jointly contribute to the energy transition and strengthen regional value creation.
AEP launches new financing model on the market
Projects like this show how important flexible models for implementing PV systems have become – especially in the private sector. In order to give even more people access to clean energy, AEP has developed a new financing model aimed specifically at households: Instead of high initial investments, systems can now be used conveniently via a rental model – including storage and an optional wallbox. This makes sustainable energy affordable and easily accessible for private individuals too.
Anyone interested in an uncomplicated solution for generating their own electricity should take a look at this new model: SoliRent – it’s worth it.

New solar carport project in Maria Neustift
Maria Neustift: STYRIA shows how modern residential construction works sustainably with solar carports
A project is currently underway in Maria Neustift that impressively demonstrates how climate-friendly energy supply and modern residential construction can go hand in hand. Two solar carports are being built on the site of the STYRIA – Gemeinnützige Steyrer Wohn- & Siedlungsgenossenschaft (Neustift 46A, 4443 Maria Neustift) residential complex, which will not only provide shelter for vehicles in future, but also generate clean energy for the residents.
Two carports - double the energy
The two carports, which together have an installed capacity of around 30 kWp, offer a total of eleven parking spaces and will be equipped with charging stations for electric cars. STYRIA is thus sending a clear signal for the future: climate protection, e-mobility and quality of life for residents are intelligently combined here.
Innovatively built - with a positive CO₂ balance
A special feature of the project is the chosen construction method: The carports do not require traditional foundations. Instead, only small plinths were constructed with leveling compound. They are anchored directly into the existing pavement using asphalt screws – resource-saving, quick and virtually non-removable.
Glulam timber is used for the roof structure, which ensures a positive carbon footprint even during construction. The roof is covered with trapezoidal sheet metal, on which the PV modules are mounted.
Cheap electricity for residents - without any grid fees
The PV systems are scheduled for completion in mid-June. Particularly pleasing for the residents: they can purchase the solar power generated directly via a local energy community (GEA) – and at exceptionally favorable conditions.
This is because there are no grid fees and statutory levies, which means that solar power only costs 16 cents per kilowatt hour. By comparison, the average household electricity price in Austria is currently significantly higher.
Financed by AEP - no costs for developers or residents
The project is being implemented using the contracting model by AEP H2 GmbH. This means: no investment costs for the property developer STYRIA or the residents – the financing and construction will be handled entirely by AEP.

CFO, AEP H2 GmbH
Thomas Eidenberger
“This project shows how the energy transition in residential construction works today: We finance, plan and build – the residents benefit directly from clean, affordable electricity and make a contribution to climate protection at the same time. A real win-win situation.”
Conclusion: showcase project for sustainable living
The solar carport project in Maria Neustift is an example of modern energy and mobility solutions in residential construction. Thanks to the well thought-out design, low-cost power supply and CO₂-friendly materials, both the environment and local people benefit – without any investment costs.

Jonas Gundacker reaches the final of the PTT tournament in Maria Lanzendorf
Jonas Gundacker continues his upward sporting trend: at the international PTT tournament in Maria Lanzendorf ($20,000 prize money), the 22-year-old from Lower Austria showed impressively that he is in top form – both physically and mentally. Although he lost to Hungary’s Norbert Marosik (ATP 1950) in the final, the way he got there was more than remarkable.
The tournament format consisted of group matches, followed by a grid for places 1 to 20. Jonas got off to a strong start, although he was beaten by Finland’s Peetu Pohjola in the first round after taking the first set, but was then able to move into the final grid with three convincing victories – including against Stepan Baum (ATP 1220).
Sebastian Prechtel (ATP 911), a real heavyweight, was waiting in the semi-finals – but Jonas fought back after clearly losing the first set and won in three sets: 1:6, 7:5, 6:2. He finally lost the final against Marosik 3:6, 2:6, but was still able to celebrate second place and $2,075 in prize money.
"I've seen that I can keep up with stronger opponents"
This tournament was an important yardstick for Jonas. “The match against Prechtel in particular showed me that I can also hold my own against much better-ranked players – if I stay calm, play my game and fight for every point,” said Jonas after the tournament.
His long-term goals also remain clear: to collect more ATP points, establish himself at futures tournaments and gradually work his way up to the top 200.
Sporting ambition meets a sense of values
In addition to sport, Jonas is also concerned with topics such as climate protection and sustainability. His stance on the energy transition fits in perfectly with AEP’s philosophy – and is one reason why we are supporting him on his journey.

AEP solar carports with a "positive" CO₂ balance - How sustainable parking lot canopies actively contribute to climate protection
CO₂ balance: parking spaces with a climate protection factor
AEP has analyzed the carbon footprints for various carport types. The entire material input of a parking space was considered – from concrete and steel to wood and aluminum – and their respective global warming potential (GWP) was determined. Particularly exciting: two of the three variants examined have a negative CO₂ balance. This means that they remove more CO₂ from the atmosphere than they emit – a real game changer in the construction industry.
1. Bifacial PV-Carport von AEP: CO₂-Senke statt CO₂-Quelle
The bifacial design – i.e. with active solar modules on both sides – scores twice: through high energy yield and a CO₂ balance of -191.11 kg CO₂ per parking space.
The main reason for this positive balance is the use of glued laminated timber (glulam), which stores CO₂ as a building material. Despite the concrete foundation and steel reinforcement, the CO₂ storage effect prevails – the carport becomes an active CO₂ sink.
2. Trapezodial PV-Carport von AEP: Ebenfalls im Minusbereich
The trapezoidal version with a trapezoidal sheet steel roof also remains well within the green zone:
-56.94 kg CO₂ per parking space – another plus point for the climate and the environment.
The combination of a wooden structure and efficient use of materials pays off ecologically.
3. Der Unterschied zur konventionellen Bauweise: Ein massiver CO₂-Rucksack
For comparison: a classic carport made of I-beams and trapezoidal sheet metal (without wood) causes +1,085 kg of CO₂ per parking space – in other words, more than a ton of greenhouse gas emissions during construction alone!
The difference to the AEP solutions is therefore around 1,100 kg of CO₂ per parking space – a clear decision for sustainable construction.

Sample calculation: Big impact for large projects
Let’s assume a company wants to cover 50 parking spaces with solar carports. The CO₂ comparison at a glance:
Choosing the right type of carport alone can save up to 63 tons of CO₂ – equivalent to the annual emissions of around 40 mid-range cars!
| Variante | CO₂-Bilanz je Parkplatz | Gesamt (50 Plätze) |
|---|---|---|
| AEP PV-Carport Bifacial | –191 kg | –9.555 kg CO₂ |
| AEP PV-Carport Trapezodial | –57 kg | –2.847 kg CO₂ |
| Standard-Stahl-Carport | +1.085 kg | +54.250 kg CO₂ |
(Negative values = CO₂ reduction)
Technical details: How the CO₂ balance is calculated
The CO₂ balance (GWP = Global Warming Potential) is calculated for each material component used on the basis of recognized environmental declarations (EPD):
These values are multiplied by the quantities used – the result is the CO₂ balance per parking space.
| Material | GWP-Wert | Quelle |
|---|---|---|
| Beton | 281 kg CO₂/m³ | Bau-EPD |
| Stahl/Bewehrung | 1.500 kg CO₂/1000 kg | XCarb recycled steel |
| Holz (BSH) | –639,34 kg CO₂/m³ | EPD Binderholz |
| Aluminium | 2.000 kg CO₂/1000 kg | metagreen Alumero |
| Stahlblech | 1.500 kg CO₂/1000 kg | XCarb recycled steel |

Project Manager PV-Carports, AEP
Conclusion: Those who rely on AEP solar carports not only protect themselves from the sun and rain - they also protect the climate.
The carbon footprint shows in black and white: our solar carports are not only energy-efficient in operation, but also make a sustainable contribution to reducing greenhouse gases. Even before the first kilowatt hour of solar power is generated. Solar carports from AEP are the right choice for companies and municipalities that focus on real sustainability.

8.5 MWp PV project in Ferschnitz
The energy transition is progressing – and AEP is setting a strong example! In Ferschnitz, a state-of-the-art photovoltaic plant with an output of 8.5 megawatts (MW) is being built on an area of 9 hectares. This corresponds to around 13 soccer pitches full of solar energy and marks the largest PV project in the history of AEP H2 GmbH.
A milestone for sustainable power supply
The construction of this plant is an important step towards a climate-friendly and independent energy supply. Once completed, the PV system will supply thousands of households and businesses with renewable electricity. By using state-of-the-art solar technology, the energy generated will be efficiently fed into the grid and help to stabilize the regional supply.

The AEP contracting model - solar power without acquisition costs
A project of this magnitude requires not only innovative technology, but also a well thought-out financing model. Thanks to the proven AEP contracting model, municipalities, companies and businesses can benefit from this sustainable source of energy – without having to make any investment costs of their own. AEP takes care of the entire financing, planning and implementation of the project, while customers benefit from low-cost, clean energy in the long term.
Project start and schedule
The official go-ahead for the project was given at the beginning of April 2025 and the detailed planning, sourcing of components and official approvals will be finalized in the coming weeks. Construction work is expected to begin in six weeks and should be completed within four to six months – depending on the availability of the required transformers.
Successful collaboration with the municipality and partners
A large-scale PV project of this size requires numerous official approvals and expert opinions. Thanks to the close and cooperative collaboration between AEP, the municipality of Ferschnitz, landowner Rudolf Mayerhofer and the responsible public authorities, it was possible to obtain all the necessary approvals without any problems. Mayor Michael Hülmbauer also actively supports the project and emphasizes the positive effects on the community:

The electricity remains in the region thanks to an energy community
Another key aspect of the project is the planned regional energy community that is to be created once the PV system in Ferschnitz is completed. The aim is not simply to feed the solar power generated into the general grid, but to make it directly usable in the region – for households, businesses and public institutions.
The energy community will be open to everyone who is connected to the substation. This will enable a large proportion of the local population to benefit from sustainable, affordable electricity from the region in future – and the added value will remain where it is generated.

Mayor Ferschnitz
Michael Hülmbauer
“This project not only strengthens the regional economy, but also makes a significant contribution to a sustainable energy supply. We are proud to be able to realize this innovative project in our community.”
Outlook: Further expansion already in planning
Following completion of the first construction phase, further expansion of the plant is already planned. AEP plans to further increase the capacity of the plant and thus feed even more clean energy into the regional power supply.
With this project, AEP H2 GmbH is once again sending a strong signal for the future of renewable energies and demonstrating that sustainable energy supply and economic success can go hand in hand.
