Photovoltaic contracting is a model in which an external provider (contractor) installs, operates and maintains a photovoltaic system on a customer's roof or open space. The customer does not pay for the purchase of the system, but receives either rental income (full feed-in) or the opportunity to use the solar power produced by the system at a low cost (surplus feed-in). The contractor remains the owner of the system until the end of the contract term (15-20 years), after which it becomes the property of the customer at no further cost.
Contracting eliminates the investment costs for the purchase and installation of the system as well as any maintenance and operating costs, as these are borne by the contractor. The customer benefits from regular rental income for the space provided (full feed-in) and/or low energy costs through the purchase of green solar power from the system (surplus feed-in). At the end of the term (15-20 years), the system becomes the property of the customer at no additional cost.
